Getting started with Microsoft Copilot Studio

What is Microsoft Copilot Studio?

Because Copilot is the topic of this article, why not ask Microsoft Copilot what Microsoft Copilot Studio is!

With Microsoft Copilot Studio users can customize Copilot for Microsoft 365, create custom copilots and generative AI templates, and incorporate data and plugins for engaging interactions.
It offers a graphical development environment to build copilots using generative AI, sophisticated dialog creation, plugin capabilities, process automation, and built-in analytics that work with Microsoft conversational AI tools. Essentially, it empowers users to transform customer and employee experiences with copilots built in Microsoft Copilot Studio.

Create a custom copilot

Now let’s get to the fun part and create our own Copilot, what do you think? We are going to create a copilot that will use the Microsoft Learn documentation site. On the home page choose Create a custom copilot.

Choose the following settings:

  • Copilot name: Clippy Junior
  • What language do you want your copilot to speak?: English (United States) (en-US)
  • Enter your website: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/docs/

Now let’s give our Copilot a nice icon! Choose Edit advanced options.

I think a good old Clippy icon will do, right? You can download one from here. Add the icon and leave the Advanced options as they are.

Now select your Clippy icon and choose Create.

Now you need to be patience and wait (couples of minutes) untill your Copilot is ready to use.

Once your Copilot is ready, it will be visible in the Copilots section. Clippy Junior is now ready to be your companion.

Now let’s see if Clippy Junior is as smart as we want it to be.

And action!

Click on the created Copilot and you will be redirected to the Clippy Junior chatbot. Now let us ask Clippy Junior a question. When you ask Clippy Junior a question, it will refer to the Microsoft Learn documentation website, which we added as generative AI.

Alright! We’ve just created our first custom Copilot with Microsoft Copilot Studio. Awesome isn’t it?

To summarize, we’ve created our own Copilot that will use the Microsoft Learn website as generative AI. So any question asked to Clippy Junior will be checked over the whole website and only that website.
